Location: Heppenheim
Parent company: Bergstrasse District Waste Association (ZAKB)
Shareholding held by MVV Umwelt GmbH: 49 percent
Company object: Mechanical treatment of commercial waste

BAS was founded in 2007. The company’s object is the mechanical treatment of commercial waste. The shareholders in BAS are Bergstrasse District Waste Association (ZAKB) in Lampertheim and MVV Umwelt in Mannheim.

The BAS treatment plant is being built at the site of the Bergstrasse District Waste Association (ZAKB) at Heppenheim Waste Management Centre.

In future, BAS will treat the commercial waste for the region surrounding the plant. By working with sifting and manual sorting processes, BAS separates the mixed waste delivered to the plant to produce targeted fractions for energy from waste plants, biomass power plants and, mechanical-biological waste treatment plants. It also produces recyclable fractions (ferrous and non-ferrous metals, paper, cardboard etc.) for use in recycling. Manually identified compressible materials, such as paper, cardboard, paperboard containers, foils and others are compressed into bales using a baling press.

Operations commenced at the materials sorting plant in summer 2008.
